Reduction of Mother To Child Transmission of HIV

The HIV prevalence rate reported amongst the ANC women in 2006 was in excess of 1% in Karnataka, 0.45% in Tamil Nadu and 0.30% in Rajastan. One of the effective methods of controlling the epidemic is through prevention of Mother to Child Transmission. SPAD is one of the four non state actors in this coalition venture which is led by Christian Aid with the support from European Commission (EC). Other nonstate actors in this venture are – Tamil Nadu Voluntary Health Association (TNVHA), Positive Women’s Network (PWN+) and Arogya Agam (AA).

The AIM is reduction of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV in India – improving access of positive women to public health services.

The overall Objective is to contribute to the NACP III overall goal of halting and reversing the HIV epidemic in India and to improve access to, and quality of PMTCT services and information for vulnerable populations in two high prevalence and one highly vulnerable states in India.

The geographical coverage proposed are 21districts from three states, they are Karnataka, Tamil nadu and Rajastan.
