SABALE- An Innovative HIV prevention project in Bangalore

SABALE means ‘empowered women’ . It is a prevention program of HIV among the female sexworkers in Zone II of Bangalore Urban District. 

The Goal of the project is – to halt and reverse the HIV epidemic in Bangalore, Karnataka.

The specific objectives are :

  • To increase condom use by sexworkers with their commercial partners and regular partner.
  • To reduce STI among sexworkers.
  • To create an enabling environment, to reduce the vunerabilities of sexworkers

 

The proposed key activities:

  • Formation and strengthening of Self Helf Groups and Front Line Groups, legal support for crisis management, communication intervention for behavior change, sensitisation of stake holders, quality STI care, condom programming, microplanning and tracking for sustained outreach.

Coverage: Wehave 2360 Female sexworkers in two areas of Zone II of Bangalore i.e Avalahalli and Vijaynagar.
